A90 ABERDEEN, DAMHEAD TO BRIDGE OF DEE ROUNDABOUT £290,000 ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS
Works start from Sunday 15th January for 10 weeks
Users of the A90 are to benefit from a £290,000 road safety investment by Transport Scotland. A programme of works to install new safety barrier on the central reserve, and refurbish the existing road lighting and signing is to be undertaken on the A90 South of Aberdeen, between Damhead and Bridge of Dee Roundabout.
The works are part of Transport Scotland’s ongoing investment in the trunk road network to improve road safety. This section of the A90 has been identified due to the high number of injury accidents occurring here involving vehicles leaving the carriageway and striking roadside objects. The works consist of the replacement of the existing street lighting columns and traffic signs with safer alternatives which crumple when impacted by a vehicle. Also included is the provision of a safety barrier system in the central reserve outwith the existing 40mph speed limit. This is to comply with current trunk road safety guidance and will prevent errant vehicles crossing the central reserve.
The work will mostly be carried out during the night between 7.30pm and 5.30am, with lane closures being operated during this period, and is programmed to take 10 weeks. Some daytime working will be required during the works, however this will be limited to between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm to minimise the impact on traffic flows into and out of Aberdeen.
Commenting on the works, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Operating Company Representative, said: “These works are part of an on-going programme of measures being implemented across Scotland to reduce the severity of accidents, particularly those where vehicles leave the road. Although the works are being undertaken outwith peak periods motorists should allow some extra time for their journeys.”

The works are being carried out by BEAR Scotland and have been planned in consultation with Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council.
