M90 Necessity Brae, near Broxden roundabout

Overnight works start Monday 19 June for five nights

Essential overnight bridge maintenance is planned on the M90 at Necessity Brae, just south of Broxden Roundabout, starting next week.

The essential maintenance will involve replacing some of the bridge deck joints which are in need of repair.  The new joints will mean a reduction in noise as vehicles pass over the bridge on the M90.

To allow the repairs to be completed safely, alternate lane closures of the southbound and northbound carriageways will be place each night for five nights and a temporary speed limit of 50mph in place.  The works will begin on Monday 19 June and take place from 7.30pm to 5.00am each night, with no traffic management in place during the daytime.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative said: “These works will allow us to ensure that the trunk road network remains at the highest standard, and the repairs are essential to ensure the bridge at Necessity Brae near Broxden remains in safe condition for road users.

“The lane closures will protect our teams while the bridge maintenance is completed, and we’ve taken steps to keep disruption to a minimum by scheduling the repairs to take place overnight.

“Every effort will be made to reduce any impact to road users during this scheme, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date journey information.”

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
