**UPDATE: £50,000 IMPROVEMENTS AT A9/ B8081 BLACKFORD JUNCTION EXTENDED DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER**

Please be advised that the £50,000 junction improvements on the A9 Blackford Junction, outlined in the release below, have been extended for two nights due to heavy rains affecting operations.

Two additional nights of work will now take place on Thursday and Friday night this week between 7.30pm and 6.30am, with works expected to finish by 6.30am on Saturday morning.

No works will take place tonight, Wednesday 16 August, as the forecasted heavy rains would affect the ongoing resurfacing operations.

The junction restrictions will be lifted tonight as no works are in place, however traffic management will be the same as outlined below for Thursday and Friday night’s planned works.  Lane closures with temporary prohibited right turns will be in place for the duration of the improvement works each night.  Diversion routes will be available via Queen Victoria Interchange, north of Dunblane, in the south and Loaninghead Interchange in the north for motorists looking to use the junction to and from Blackford.  The lane closures and junction restrictions will be lifted during the day to minimise disruption.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “Heavy rain can have a significant impact on road materials during surfacing operations such as this, and although the weather is outwith our control, our teams will continue to do all they can to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.   We thank motorists for their continued patience while the junction improvements are completed.”

£50,000 JUNCTION IMPROVEMENTS

A9/ B8081 Blackford Junction

Overnight works begin Monday 14 August for three nights

A section of the A9 at Blackford is set to benefit from junction maintenance works later this month.  The works involve resurfacing the area in the central reservation and upgrading the road markings to improve road safety.

The improvements are due to begin on Monday 14 August and are expected to be completed in three nights, between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night.

To allow the works to take place safely and for the protection of road workers and motorists, lane closures with temporary prohibited right turns will be in place for the duration of the improvement works each night.  Diversion routes will be available via Queen Victoria Interchange, north of Dunblane, in the south and Loaninghead Interchange in the north for motorists looking to use the junction to and from Blackford.  The lane closures and junction restrictions will be lifted during the day to minimise disruption.

Commenting on the improvements, Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “Safety is a top priority for both BEAR Scotland and Transport Scotland and this scheme is part of our commitment to that.

“The improvements to this junction will help increase road safety, making it easier and much safer for motorists to make right-hand turns across the junction.

“The works are being carried out overnight to minimise delays and our teams will do all they can to complete the improvements as quickly and safely as possible.

“We encourage motorists to plan their journey in advance and allow some extra time.”
