A9 Killiecrankie Retaining Walls

Works start Monday 18 September for two weeks

Essential investigation works are set to get underway on a dualled section of the A9 at Killiecrankie, near Pitlochry, starting next week.

The investigation works will take place on the retaining walls next to the carriageway, and involve carrying out an inspection and testing of the wall support systems to check that the structures remain safe and secure into the future.

The project, undertaken by BEAR Scotland in partnership with specialist subcontractors starts on Monday 18 September and is scheduled to take two weeks.

For the safety of the workforce and road users this section of the A9 will require temporary lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageways for the duration of the project.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These works are necessary to assess the condition of the retaining walls running adjacent to the A9 at Killiecrankie. Any areas identified as requiring further maintenance will be noted and works planned into our ongoing programme.

“The lane closures are essential to make sure that everyone is kept safe during the investigations. Our teams will look to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible. We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and check Traffic Scotland for real-time journey information.”

Real-time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on or twitter @trafficscotland.
