M90 Junction 8 northbound

Works start Friday 8 December for twelve days

Junction 8 northbound off-slip closed for safety at evenings and weekends during resurfacing improvements

Road maintenance improvements are scheduled to take place on the M90 between Hilton (Milnathort) and Arlary starting later this week.

Following on from the previous phases of carriageway improvements recently completed on Junctions 6 to 7 of the M90, a new £475,000 investment will see the next phase of works carried out over a one kilometre stretch of the northbound concrete carriageway on the route.

Starting from Friday 8 December, maintenance works on the M90 northbound carriageway between Junction 7, Hilton, and Junction 8, Arlary, will be carried out over 12 days to repair and improve the concrete carriageway.

The M90 at this section is used by almost 30,000 vehicles a day and the improvements will considerably enhance the safety of the road at this location.  The works will involve road surface repairs and improvements to the carriageway.

During the improvements, a 50mph contraflow system will be in place to protect roadworkers as well as motorists throughout the works.

Due to the location of the works, the Junction 8 northbound off-slip will be closed at weekends and overnights during the week between 7.30pm and 6.30am to allow resurfacing works on the slip road to be carried out.  A signed diversion will be in place from M90 Junction 6 northbound via the A922, B966 to A91 during these times.

To minimise disruption to road users, the Junction 8 northbound off-slip will be reopened during the daytime between 6.30am and 7.30pm under a 30mph speed limit for safety as traffic will be travelling over a temporary road surface.

Night-time lane closures will be in place overnight on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 December to allow teams to set up the traffic management arrangements ahead of works starting on Friday evening.

The improvements are expected to be completed by Monday 18 December at 6.30am.

Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This £475,000 investment from Transport Scotland will allow us to carry out maintenance works to ensure our network continues to operate at the highest standard, and forms part of the ongoing strategy to improve the concrete carriageway on the M90.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, and we encourage motorists to plan their journey in advance and check the Traffic Scotland website before setting out.”

The works will be carried out by BEAR Scotland and have been planned in consultation with Police Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and Transport Scotland.
