** UPDATE:  Overnight improvement works on A83 south of Ardrishaig postponed due to forecast inclement weather **

Please be advised that tomorrow (Wednesday) night’s planned overnight road improvements for a section of the A83 south of Ardrishaig have been postponed due to forecast inclement weather.

An overnight road closure was due to be in place during the improvements for safety to protect the workforce as well as motorists during the project, however the road will now be open as normal instead.

The project will now be reprogrammed and all stakeholders will be informed of any new dates.

Real-time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland.org, twitter @trafficscotland or the new mobile website my.trafficscotland.org.

Overnight surfacing improvements planned for A83 near Ardrishaig Swing Bridge

Project to take place on Wednesday 19 September for one night

Overnight road closure in place for safety, 9pm-7am

A section of the A83 at Ardrishaig is set to benefit from surfacing improvements starting next week.

The overnight surfacing works will see teams resurface a section of the A83 on approach to the Ardrishaig Swing Bridge, creating a smoother and safer journey for road users.

The project is set to take place over one night on Wednesday 19 September, starting at 8pm.  A 10mph convoy system will be in place for the first hour of the operations to allow our teams to work safely while removal of the old surface takes place.  From 9pm, an overnight road closure will be in place for safety while resurfacing is carried out as the operation will block the single carriageway across the Ardrishaig Swing Bridge.

As there is no suitable diversion route for trunk road traffic, vehicles will be stacked on each approach to the site and escorted through at approximately one-hour intervals, or when it is safe to do so. Alternatively, members of the travelling public are encouraged to plan an alternative route during the overnight working hours.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with all relevant stakeholders to inform them of the works in advance.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These works will greatly improve the road surface on this section of the A83 through Ardrishaig, creating a safer and smoother journey for motorists.

“We’ve planned the works to take place overnight for safety reasons due to the narrowness of the road but it also helps to minimise disruption to road users, and our teams will do all they can to complete the improvements as quickly and safely as they can.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
