£185,000 OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

A83 Muasdale Village

Overnight improvements to begin Sunday 7 October for up to five nights, 7pm-7am

Overnight road closures in place for safety

A section of the A83 through the village of Muasdale is set to benefit from resurfacing worth £185,000.

The improvements will upgrade the road surface through a 1.2km section of the village, helping to create a smoother and safer journey for road users.

The improvements to the A83 are scheduled to begin on Sunday 7 October and will last for up to five nights.  Works will take place between 7:00pm and 7:00am each night, with no works planned during the daytime.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, the A83 will be closed overnight during the improvements due to the narrow width of the road.  As there is no suitable diversion route for trunk road traffic, vehicles will be stacked on each approach to the site and escorted through at approximately two-hour intervals, or when it is safe to do so.

Access will be maintained for emergency services at all times.

The road will reopen outside of working hours, however a 30mph speed limit will be in place as traffic will be running on a temporary surface.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said:

“These works will provide an improved road surface when they are complete, boosting the quality of the transport links for the area as well as increasing safety for the travelling public.

“We’ve scheduled these works to take place overnight as well as avoiding the busier Friday and Saturday nights to limit the impact to road users as much as possible, and our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as they can.

“We thank the local community and travelling public for their patience in advance of the works and encourage them to plan their journeys ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”

These road improvements on the A83 through Muasdale are part of a wider £24M programme of surfacing improvements across over 200 locations on the North West trunk road network for 2018.  A full programme of the surfacing repairs is available to download from the BEAR Scotland website at http://bit.ly/BEARScotRepairs, and an interactive map of the upcoming improvements is available at http://bit.ly/NWSurfacingMap.
