£100,000 OVERNIGHT ESSENTIAL BRIDGE IMPROVEMENTS

A85 Orchy Bridge

Works start Monday 9 September for four nights

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, 9pm and 6am

Essential bridge improvements on the A85 Orchy Bridge, approximately one and a half miles west of Dalmally, are programmed to take place next month.

The £100,000 project will involve replacing the joints of the bridge as well as carriageway surfacing improvements, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.  Expansion joints are essential components on the bridge, allowing the structure to move by up to 12 centimetres as the temperature changes between summer and winter months.  The existing joints need to be replaced to ensure the continued safe use of the bridge and the smooth passage of vehicles over the joints.

The overnight improvements are scheduled to begin on Monday 9 September and are programmed to take up to four nights to complete. The project will take place between 9pm and 6am each night with the project expected to be finished by 6am Friday 13 September.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and motorists, an overnight road closure will be in place during the project as teams will be working across the full width of the carriageway.  A signed diversion route will be in place via the A82 Tyndrum, A828 Ballachulish and the A85 at Connel.

Emergency services will be able to pass through at all times. Local bus services and local access for residents will be provided through the works when safe to do so.

All traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North Representative, said: “This £100,000 bridge improvement project will allow our teams to carry out the replacements of the expansion joints on the A85 Orchy Bridge, ensuring the bridge continues to operate safely.

“The overnight road closures are essential for ensuring the safety of our workforce as well as motorists. We’ve taken steps to help minimise disruption to motorists as much as possible by carrying out the project overnight, and we’ve made arrangements to allow the local scheduled bus services to pass through the project safely.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible and we thank road users for their patience in advance while we carry out these improvements on the A85 Orchy Bridge. We would also encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
