**MEDIA UPDATE: ADVERSE WEATHER POSTPONES SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS ON THE A82 ONICH UNTIL SUNDAY**

Please be advised that forecast inclement weather for the remainder of this week has further postponed surfacing improvements on the A82 within Onich until this weekend.

Having reviewed weather forecasts, teams have identified a suitable period to undertake the works when the risks of inclement weather causing delays are lower. The project is now programmed to commence on Sunday 16 February and will take two nights to complete with all work due to be completed by 5am Tuesday 18 February, subject to weather conditions.

The traffic management will remain the same as originally planned, with a road closure in place for safety between 8pm and 5am each night. With no suitable diversion route available, vehicles will be held at the works site until they are able to be escorted safely through the roadworks during hourly amnesty periods at 9pm, 10pm, 12midnight, 1am,  2am, 3am and 4am. Motorists are encouraged to arrive prior to these times to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period.

The A82 will be open during the daytime, however a 30mph speed limit will be in place to ensure vehicles can safely pass over the temporary road surface.

All relevant stakeholders have been informed of the changes and updated on the new dates of the project.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.

60,000 OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS

A82 Gollanfield

Works start Tuesday 11 February for two nights

·         Overnight road closure in place for safety, 8pm to 5am

Motorists using the A82, within Onich are set to benefit from an improved road surface as £60,000 worth of surfacing improvements are set to be carried out next week.

The project will see resurfacing works completed along a 235m section of carriageway on the A82 at Gollanfield, creating a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

The overnight improvements are scheduled to begin on Tuesday 11 February and will take up to two nights to complete. The project will take place between 8pm and 5am each night with surfacing expected to be finished by 5am Thursday 13 February.

Due to restricted road widths at this section on the A82, a road closure will be in place to ensure the safety of road workers as well as motorists. As there is no suitable diversion route available, vehicles will be held at the work site until they are able to be escorted safely through the roadworks during the set amnesty periods at 9pm, 10pm, 12midnight, 2am and 4am. Motorists are encouraged to arrive prior to these times to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period.

The A82 will be open during the daytime, however a 30mph speed limit will be in place to ensure vehicles can safely pass over the temporary road surface.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “The £60,000 investment from Transport Scotland will allow our teams to carry out this essential resurfacing project at this section of the A82, greatly improving the condition and safety of the route in this area.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, however we’ve taken steps to help minimise disruption for motorists by avoiding working over the weekend period and programming the improvements to take place overnight.

“Our teams will look to do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible. We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out the project. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website before setting off for up to date traffic information.”
